Cultural Bridges in Use!

in chinese here “文化桥”实例!

Vadim Mazo has received a very peculiar offer to participate in the celebration of the Chinese New Year, which takes place in February, from 11 to 28. In China, this holiday is called the Festival of Spring. It is very unusual event — ONLINE CONCERT!

Vadim Mazo told:

– We are going to play a duet with a pianist from Minsk, Ekaterina Zhurova, who is currently lecturing at Lingnan Normal University in China. Let me share a very unusual background story about how we got to know each other.

Upon arrival in China from Minsk, I had to be on quarantine for two weeks. Quite unexpectedly, it turned out that Ekaterina and I were on the same plane from Minsk and were quarantined in the same hotel, separated only by a corridor. We started chatting online and even rehearsing. Here we go! What nice benefits of the 21st century we’ve got! Despite the fact that we had never seen each other before, we decided to record a joint performance online! It will be the performance at the Festival of Spring.

We will perform two pieces: a popular Chinese play “The Fisherman’s Feast” and “Waltz No. 2” by Dmitry Shostakovich in my version rendered for the viola and the Waltz, which is associated with the period of socialism in the Soviet history and the modern socialist system in China. In a manner of speaking, this is a bridge to Shostakovich, to the future, just like a well-known “Bridge to Future” by El Lisitskiy, a member of the Vitebsk UNOVIS Group.

I am to record the violin and viola parts, Ekaterina is in charge of the piano. And, we hope, we will get a worthy “production”! This is OUR new worthwhile experience.
So, at the online festival, two Russian musicians who have never met each other before, will perform Chinese music! Do you fancy seeing/listening to it? You will find the link to this online festive steaming on my page.
