The program “Portrait of Two geniuses” will be held in the Belarusian Philharmonic hall on November 24. Vadim worked in this Philharmonic from 1968 to 1980, before leaving for America. The program was prepared in a duet with the Honored artist of the Republic of Belarus Yuri Gildyuk. Minsk is expecting a premiere: Dmitry Shostakovich’s unfinished Sonata, written in 1945, will be performed here for the first time.

The main idea of the program is to emphasize the connection of times, the connection between Dmitry Shostakovich and Beethoven, who are separated by centuries and United by music. After all, Beethoven was for Shostakovich a spiritual mentor, inspiration, a kind of bridge of time in chamber music. And you can hear it. The Spring Sonata, Beethoven’s opus 24, and Shostakovich’s Viola Sonata, opus 134, which includes quotes from the Moonlight Sonata, will be performed. As well as” Scherzo” from Shostakovich’s violin Sonata, which is dedicated to David Oistrakh.

When he was still in China, Vadim Mazo commissioned a young talented sculptor sculpture “Two giants: Beethoven and Shostakovich”. The student comes to the teacher through the ages for advice on how he wrote his Sonata. You can see a photo of this sculpture on the poster, so it’s also a kind of visual premiere!
